Aims and Scope

Agrifood Research and Enterprise (Agrifood Res. Enterp.) publishes original research, short communications, and critical reviews at the intersection of digital technology and economic enterprise in agriculture and food systems. The journal is organized around two focus tracks, each guided by a dedicated section editor, with particular interest in work that meaningfully connects the two.

Track I

Agri-Food Informatics

Digital technologies, computational systems, and data-driven approaches applied to agricultural and food production, processing, and distribution.

  • Precision agriculture and smart farming systems
  • Internet of Things (IoT) and sensor networks for farm and post-harvest monitoring
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning for yield prediction, pest/disease detection, and decision support
  • Remote sensing and geospatial analysis in agriculture
  • Agricultural robotics and automation
  • Blockchain and digital traceability in food supply chains
  • Digital platforms, e-commerce, and marketplace systems for agri-food products
  • Data science, big data, and analytics applied to agriculture and food systems
  • Farm management information systems and agricultural software

Track II

Agri-Food Economics and Business

Economic, managerial, and policy dimensions of agricultural production and food systems.

  • Agricultural and food economics
  • Agribusiness management and farm business strategy
  • Agri-food value chain and supply chain management
  • Agricultural marketing and consumer behavior
  • Food security and agricultural/food policy analysis
  • Cooperative management and rural institutional economics
  • Rural development and livelihood studies
  • Market analysis, price dynamics, and trade in agricultural and food commodities
  • Investment, finance, and risk management in agriculture and agri-food enterprise

Especially Welcomed

Studies that bridge both tracks are particularly encouraged — for example, work examining the economic, managerial, or adoption impact of digital agricultural technologies; techno-economic feasibility studies; or research on how digitalization reshapes agribusiness and agri-food value chains.

Supporting Disciplines

Agricultural and Food Science

Agricultural science, food science, and related natural sciences are welcomed as supporting content when the manuscript's core contribution is clearly tied to Track I or Track II — for example, food quality data analyzed through a digital monitoring system, or a post-harvest technology study framed around its economic feasibility. Manuscripts consisting solely of agricultural or food science findings, without a substantive informatics or economics/business dimension, fall outside the current scope of the journal.

Out of Scope

  • Standalone agricultural or food science studies without a technology or economics/business dimension
  • General computer science, IT, or engineering research not applied to agriculture or food systems
  • General economics or business research not situated in an agricultural or food context
  • Descriptive ethnobotanical or purely observational studies without analytical depth
  • Manuscripts based on secondary/statistical data without primary analysis or original contribution

Article Types

Original Research Article · Short Communication · Critical Review

All submissions are expected to demonstrate sound methodology, transparent data reporting, proportionate claims, and a clearly articulated contribution relevant to one or both tracks. Full author guidelines are available on the Submissions page.
